Ministries

Worship Opportunities

  • Acolyte: Acolytes are young people in grades 7 and higher who also take part in the service. We had our first girl acolyte in 1972. And there's no age discrimination here at Trinity - we have our very own senior citizen acolyte at the 8:00 service.

  • Altar Guild: Working quietly behind the scenes to keep the altar, vessels, vestments, etc. in top shape are the Altar Guild, a group that puts many hours into their work to ensure that the church is always ready for scheduled services, weddings, funerals, and baptisms. They also make sure flowers are enjoyed long after being on the altar, delivering them after the service to shut-ins and to those who are ill.

  • Chalice Bearers: Chalice Bearers assist in the Eucharistic Celebration.

  • Music Ministries: Music at Trinity Church is held in high esteem. In fact, it is viewed as a ministry. It brings worshipers into relationship with God and helps them express their adoration of and prayers to Him. To this end, instruments and voices sound forth in our devotion and praise. We strive for excellence. Only our best if good enough. Currently we have two choirs -- the Senior Choir and the Junior Choir -- involved in church worship.
Senior Choir - One can't participate in our services without noticing, or hearing for that matter, the key role our Senior Choir plays in adding joy and spirit to our weekly worship. They've grown so over the years, that they now sit on both sides of the altar! The Choir practices following the Sunday service. Together they enjoy not just making beautiful music, but the bond of friendship in serving our Lord.
Junior Choir - The Junior Choir, comprised of children in grades 3-7, sings for special services during Christmas and Easter and once a month on Youth Sunday. They practice on Mondays after school during Advent and Lent and one Monday a month during the rest of the year. Their angelic faces, sweet voices, and boundless spirit add much life to our Youth Sunday Services and other special services.

  • Lay Eucharistic Visitor: Our Lay Eucharistic Visitors are members of the parish who deliver the Eucharist to the sick and shut-ins of the parish. Lay Eucharistic Visitors are trained and licensed through the diocese particularly for this ministry. They provide a special service to those who otherwise would not be able to receive the Eucharist. Additionally, they provide that important one-on-one contact to those in need.

  • Parish Worship Committee: This group works along with the Rector to plan services, study the many ways our Prayer Book offers enrichment, and occasionally carefully experiment with ways to worship.

  • Ushers: Ushers (lay greeters) greet parishioners, hand out programs, collect alms, and record the number in attendance. Lectors read the Lessons, Psalm, and Prayers of the People.

Christian Education

  • Adult Formation: This group helps explore and develop ways for adults to learn more about their faith. Programs initiated by this group include Centering Prayer, Lenten Home Services, Book Study Group, video discussions, an adult version of J2A, and Parenting Classes.

  • Young People's Christian Formation & Education Staff: Presenting a rich curriculum to the parish youth, beginning at the preschool level. It is the goal of this ministry to have students grow and learn, eventually returning as assistants to re-invest their education as teachers.

  • Rite 13 & J2A: These dynamic groups meet twice a month, usually on Sunday evenings. Their activities are designed to reinforce and enhance the Journey To Adulthood curriculum. They organize and take part in activities that foster participation of the younger members of our congregation, including ice skating, trips to the movies, helping at the soup kitchen, working at the food bank, and the annual Halloween sleep-over ("lock-in!") at the Episcopal Conference Center. The Senior Youth Group also hosts the annual Pancake Supper and sponsors a booth at the annual Victorian Village Bazaar at Christmas time.

Pastoral Care

  • New Member Ministry: This group plans ways to better welcome visitors and newcomers into our midst. They schedule training sessions for Ushers and Greeters, and are always brainstorming to come up with new ideas to make the Trinity community and amenities more accessible. If you have any bright ideas, let them know!

  • Prayer Group: Parishioners who join the Prayer Group commit themselves to a ministry of intercessory prayer whereby they pray privately and confidentially for 30 days for the individual whose name is given to them. Prayer requests are taken from the brown box near the altar every Sunday and divided among the intercessors.

  • Share, Care and Cards Ministry: Send birthday cards to shut-ins, get well cards to parishioners recovering from accidents or illness, and cards of condolence to those experiencing the loss of a loved one. Provide transportation to appointments for parishioners in need, as well as pick-up and delivery of prescriptions. Meals are arranged for those are sick or otherwise in need.

Community Outreach

  • Food Closet: Open Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00am-11:00am.

  • The Thrift Shop: Part of Trinity's OUTREACH ministry, our great little thrift shop is run by the Trinity Episcopal Church Women's group (ECW), a very dedicated group of women who volunteer to sort, price, organize and sell gently used items. The shop is located on the outskirts of the Scituate Village in the Scituate Hardware Plaza (across from the Scituate Medical Building). The income from this is used to fund items not covered in the operating budget of the church.

Parish Life

  • Annual Bazaar: The Winter Wonderland Bazaar is second to none - and it's the best church fair around! It's an all-parish event with planning and workshops all year long. Those doing the projects say they love the company of fellow parishioners while learning the secrets behind the crafts. The Holiday Greens booth, Christmas booth, and Cafe are very popular. The Penny Social is run by the Men's Club, and the Country Store booth is manned by our energetic Youth Group.

  • Episcopal Church Women (ECW): This dynamic group of women is responsible for a number of popular activities: Military Whist, Secret Pals for Shut-Ins, Annual Banquet, Traveler's Aid Courtesy Bags, Thrift Shop, May Baskets, and Christmas gifts to shut-ins, to mention a few.

  • Fellowship Hour: Fellowship Hour, also known as Coffee Hour, is held at Aldrich Hall following the services each Sunday. It is a time when the parish community comes together to visit and enjoy the fellowship of other parishioners. Conversations range from church business to personal issues and serve to strengthen the bonds of community at Christ Church.

  • Men's Club: This equally dynamic group (perhaps not in numbers, but certainly in personality) is responsible for organizing and running the following events: Apple Crisp baking for the Cathedral Meal Site, The Annual Yard Sale, projects for the bazaar, Penny Social at the Bazaar, and St. Patrick's Day Dinner.

  • Turkey Supper: The Turkey Supper is held each Columbus Day weekend when Scituate Art Festival exhibitors and goers alike look forward to warm plates of delicious turkey with all the fixings and friendly smiles of those dishing out heaping helpings. Many parishioners work together to make this popular event a success - making phone calls, baking pies, peeling squash, mashing potatoes, washing dishes

  • WINGS (Women  In Need of Growing Spiritually)

  • Youth Group (Rite 13 I, Rite 13 II, J2A): These dynamic groups meet twice a month, usually on Sunday evenings. Visit the Teens page for event and meeting info, plus a number of great links especially for teens and information about the Journey To Adulthood Program.

Church Support

  • Buildings & Grounds Committee: This group oversees the maintenance of the church buildings and parking lots.

  • Counting: Also known as The Bald Eagles and the Gray Goose Brigade, these trusted servants give their time and counting talents to tally the collection.

  • Finance Committee: The finance committee is responsible for the development of the annual operating budget of the parish, which is submitted to the Vestry for approval.

  • Communication Systems: This group explores and institutes ways of communicating information to our congregation and throughout our community regarding special events - newspaper advertising for special events, signs, the newsletter, the web site, and much more.

  • Information Systems: This group maintains the church website, computer hardware and software, and internet access. They provide technical support to the office staff and offer computer related education.

  • Office Volunteers: Parishioners assist the Parish Administrator with church mailings and various projects throughout the year as needed.

  • Vestry: Made up of six members, this group is responsible for conducting the business of the church. Two members are elected each year to serve a three-year term to allow for rotation. These officers of the church are responsible for the management, financial well being, and stewardship of the church. Each also chairs a committee. In addition, the Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and Clerk sit on the Vestry . We are grateful for and proud of their work. Vestry meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month.
